The New York Academy of Art offers a range of artist residencies and fellowships for students and alumni, from stone carving in Carrara, Italy to a pastoral retreat in the Hudson Valley.

This four-week long residency is awarded to up to two graduate students by New York Academy of Art faculty and a panel of judges including top architects and designers. While studying at the Studio Corsanini in Carrara, Italy residents study under master sculptor Stephen Shaheen (MFA 2005).
Made possible by ABC Stone founder Jonathan Tibett with support from artist Stephen Shaheen, this residency aims to promote the use of stone in artistic practice by pairing young artists with master sculptors for experimental learning through intensive mentoring.
The University of Notre Dame Global Centre at Kylemore partners with the New York Academy of Art to offer a total of eight (8) Artist Residency Awards. Four (4) for the Fall session and four (4) for the Winter session. The award includes private room and board, and shared studio spaces. The time spent in Ireland will be at Kylemore Abbey (4 weeks) to be exposed to the Visual Arts in the urban and the rural landscapes. These residencies expose alumni to the Irish art world, build networks and the opportunity to exhibit in the Global Centre. The residencies are awarded on the basis of merit and suitability.

Eric Fischl Artist-in-

Two alumni are chosen annually to teach and create art on campus at West Nottingham Academy, located near the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. Each resident is on campus for one semester. Residents are given a private studio, an apartment in the Faculty Dormitory, three meals a day at the campus dining facility, access to a campus car as needed, an exhibition at the beginning of the residency, and the opportunity to present their work to the West Nottingham community in the form of an Artist Talk. A $12,000 stipend is awarded to support the work and to cover any unforeseen expenses during the residency, generously provided by Academy Senior Critic and West Nottingham alumnus Eric Fischl.
The Eric Fischl Fogo Island Arts Administrative Internship offers graduates hands-on experience in arts administration at Fogo Island Arts, a contemporary art venue and residency program off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada. Interns work four days per week supporting day-to-day operations, communications, event coordination, and patron stewardship. The position includes a stipend, shared housing, transportation, and studio space. Fellows also serve as ambassadors for FIA — giving tours, welcoming visitors, and supporting artists-in-residence.

This two-month residency is awarded to up to four (4) graduating students with the New York Academy of Art in partnership with the Leipzig International Art Programme (LIA). Based in Leipzig, Germany, the award provides an immersive live/work experience within the cotton mill turned art city, the Spinnerei. LIA offers studio and museum visits, while working among a diverse group of colleagues from around the world. Four artists are hosted across two live/work studios (two artists sharing one studio). The residency includes 2000 sq. ft. of common area. The residency culminates in a group show with a public opening.
As a corollary to the curriculum of the New York Academy of Art, this program provides additional support to students of sculpture for developing advanced artistic practice through intellectual study, iterative maquette development and technical proficiency.
Fellowships are oriented to the production of one original and well researched work of sculpture appropriate for bronze casting. Additionally, fellows will be required to attend periodic meetings and critiques with advisors over the course of the fellowship. Instruction will be provided according to the needs of the fellows and may include figure modeling, mold making, wax chasing, bronze chasing and patination. Upon approval, the final sculpture will be cast into bronze at the Bedi-Makky Art Foundry.

Fieldstones
Residency
The Alumni Association of the New York Academy of Art (AANYAA) Fieldstones Residency is a summer escape in the northern Hudson Valley exclusively for one graduate of the New York Academy of Art. Spend two weeks focusing on their artwork in the peace of a 100-acre rural property complete with mountain views and a creek with a swimming hole. Bring hiking boots, marshmallows for the fire, and art supplies as you double down on your studio practice in a pastoral environment.
Please bear in mind that, despite Fieldstones’ many amenities (which include WIFI and hot water bathroom access), the location and lodgings are rustic. Upon acceptance, the selected alum will receive more information regarding what to pack for Fieldstones, as well as travel directions and info on local grocery stores.
